Plantronics

When, on July 20th 1969, U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped out on to the surface of the moon, the historic "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind..." words, were transmitted through a Plantronics headset.

Plantronics had been born just eight years earlier when United Airlines solicited new designs for cockpit communications headsets for the new breed in jet airlines. Courtney Graham, a United Airline pilot, was one of the many who thought the heavy headsets should be replaced by something lighter. He collaborated with his pilot friend, Keith Larkin, to create a small, functional design, which was robust enough to pass airlines standards.

Today, Plantronics is seen as the world leader in personal audio communications for professionals and consumers. From unified communication solutions to Bluetooth headsets, Plantronics delivers unparalleled audio experiences and quality that reflect nearly 50 years of innovation and customer commitment. Plantronics is used by every company in the US Fortune 100 and is the headset of choice for air traffic control.

Plantronics has more than 3000 employees worldwide with offices in 19 countries, including major facilities in Mexico, Tennessee, England and The Netherlands.

It is Plantronics continued exploration of “elsewhere” work that has led them to sponsor Leesman’s inception stage research programme and educational launch events.
